Dear Minister,

Since June 2021, tens of thousands of Kiwis have insisted that the proposed hate speech laws were dropped.

Hate speech laws are subjective and dangerous. Censorship pushes ideas underground to fester, and it's far safer to have them in broad daylight for debate and reason to take hold. Everyone has their own definition of what 'hate speech' means; the proposed law would have been a disaster for all Kiwis. 

We spoke. You listened. Thank you. 

Thank you for upholding free speech in New Zealand. 

Thank you for respecting democracy. 

Thank you for leaving room for healthy discussion, debate, and reason. 

New Zealand will be better for it.
