What has happened to our healthcare system? Midwives are being restrained from using the word ‘woman’ because it doesn’t suit gender ideologies. Dentists are being educated in religious doctrine to maintain their practicing licenses. Psychologists are having to check themselves as to whether they’re the ‘right kind’ of person to do the job. Doctors are being pressured by the heavy weight of corporate interests.
Voices are being stifled in all corners.
We need a conversation about the meaning of the maxim, “first, do no harm”. We need regulatory bodies and professional standards that are guided by quality, not ideology.
Honesty and trust lie at the heart of that relationship. Practitioners need to be free to talk openly and sincerely with their patients, without censorship or fear of censure. They need to be enabled to express their professional judgement, rather than reading from pre-approved narratives, with pre-approved terminology. Patients need to be able to give or withhold informed consent, based on free and frank advice.
By standing up for your right to speak freely in your professional contexts, you can lead the way to more open discussion about healthcare and restore trust in the profession.
If you believe in a more open and transparent healthcare system, and that free speech and open inquiry are the way to get there, the Free Speech Union is here for you.
It won’t be easy. But by embracing free speech as a core principle in healthcare, we can lead the way back to a system that is grounded in sincerity, quality, and trust.
Our citizens need to know that they can rely on their healthcare professionals to advise and support them openly, honestly, and knowledgeably. That starts with you.
We understand what it feels like to be alienated from your friends and colleagues based on your views. You need to be able to express your professional opinions without fear of censure or isolation.
The Free Speech Union stands with you in rejecting the censorship, regulatory overreach, and ideological creep, that threatens to undermine our healthcare system.
Join a community of healthcare practitioners who value free expression as a necessary ingredient of a healthy healthcare system – both for themselves and the patients they serve.
